Career resources for journalists
The Trans Journalists Association offers a number of programs and resources to support journalists. Some are limited to active TJA members; others are open to all applicants or participants.
Career services
The TJA offers a host of career services. Some are available year-round; others are available only for a short time period and require an application. Follow our newsletter to receive updates when new stipend, fellowship, and mentorship opportunities are announced.
Level Up Initiative
The Trans Journalists Association provides professional development stipends of $250 and $500 to journalists pursuing professional development opportunities that support either trans journalists, coverage of trans communities, or both.
We aim to offer these in the winter, for events that occur in the summer, and in the summer, for events that occur in the fall. However, the dates depend on funding availability and other factors.
Fellowships
The Trans Journalists Association occasionally provides travel support to attend professional development events, as we did with the Trans Coverage Track at IRE 2024. These fellowships are intermittent.
We also partner with Business Insider on the TJA x Business Insider Fellowship, which provides professional development support to a TJA member who is selected for one of their newsroom fellowships.
