Meet the 2026 Trans Journalists Association Reporting Fellows

The Trans Journalists Association (TJA) is proud to announce the inaugural cohort for our Reporting Fellowship, a new program designed to directly invest in accurate, nuanced coverage of trans rights and communities.
"As the journalism industry continues to contract, we're pouring into the kind of reporting and storytelling we want to see more of," says Tre'vell Anderson, Executive Director of the Trans Journalists Association. "Being able to do that while also supporting the careers of journalists committed to ethical, just, and rigorous coverage of our communities is why our organization exists."
The fellowship will support seven journalists pursuing innovative, timely, and mission-aligned reporting projects over a six-month period. Each fellow will receive mentorship from award-winning journalist Lewis Raven Wallace, professional development support via monthly programming, and a $5,000 stipend to offset reporting costs.
TJA 2026 Reporting Fellowship cohort:
- Ja'Loni Amor Owens (they/them)
- Aïcha Camara (they/them)
- Henry Carnell (he/him)
- H Conley (they/them)
- Khalil Dennis (they/she)
- Ana González Vilá (she/they)

Through this fellowship, the TJA aims to strengthen the field of journalism by equipping reporters with the resources and support needed to tell deeply reported, community-centered stories at a critical moment for trans rights and representation.
The inaugural Reporting Fellowship is made possible through the generous support of The Burton Finck Family Foundation.
