The art of networking with Benét Wilson

TJA is going to Chicago for our inaugural Trans Journalists Summit, a first-of-its-kind professional development and training conference taking place March 24-27, 2027. Full details on the application process and programming will be announced through this newsletter soon.


Level up your professional development

Another round of TJA's professional development stipends program is currently open! For the first time since this program launched last year, we're able to offer stipends of up to $1,000 for professional development. Applications close on September 1, 2026, at 9 a.m. PT / 7 a.m. CT / 6 a.m. ET. Decisions are made on a rolling basis.

  • Playboy is seeking a Deputy Editor who keeps the digital and print machine running at volume, pace, and standard while stewarding the franchise properties that have defined Playboy's editorial voice for generations. The role is based in Miami Beach, Florida, with a salary range of $140,000 - $160,000.
  • The Boston Globe is seeking a collaborative and versatile newsletter producer to support the day-to-day production of a variety of high-priority newsletters across the newsroom. This is a hybrid role based in Boston, Massachusetts, with a salary range of $68,000 - $95,000.
  • The Trace, in partnership with Block Club Chicago, is looking for a full-time staff writer to cover the impact of gun violence on Chicago's neighborhoods. This role is based in Chicago and offers a salary range of $85,000 - $90,000.
  • KUNC is hiring an experienced and collaborative News Director to guide a highly respected public media newsroom through an exciting period of focus, innovation, and audience growth. The role is based in Greeley/Fort Collins, Colorado, with a salary range of $100,000 - $120,000 based on experience.
  • The Guardian is seeking a part-time copy editor to join the Guardian US copy desk. This role is remote or can be based in New York, NY; Washington, DC; or Los Angeles, CA, with compensation of $44,000 - $48,000 plus a 10% weekend differential for weekend work.
